US Navy Blue Angels in Rochester 2004

The Blue Angels visited Rochester in 2004 for the ESL Airshow. The "Boss" or #1 pilot, Cdr Russ Bartlett is pictured here signing autographs for the kids.

The mission of the Blue Angels is to enhance Navy recruiting, and credibly represent Navy and Marine Corps aviation to the United States and its Armed Forces to America and other countries as international ambassadors of good will.
The Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, ordered the establishment of the team on April 24, 1946.

The Blues visited Rochester in 2000 as well, and while here for that Airshow shot video that is available on DVD. It shows the local media rides and what it takes to set up a Blue Angels airshow at the Greater Rochester International Airport. The name of the DVD is "The Blue Angels: In Pursuit of Excellence".

A Couple of years ahead of Russ in school on Nantucket. Forty years Later you learn one of your Minibike Pals was a Pilot in the Blue Angels. Awesome!! He was a very intelligent person. Proud to see accomplishments like this.
